Skyhawks Football COVID-19 Update

The OFC Varsity Division and the Skyhawks Football Organization want our athletes, coaches and spectators to have the safest and healthiest experience possible. We are monitoring the information coming out closely and will follow the opinions and directions of World, National and Provincial health authorities. The situation is extremely fluid at this time. Our goal is to minimize the risk to our members while continuing to plan for any possible form of football this summer.

That said with the Coronavirus concern the City of Belleville has cancelled all use of public facilities until the end of May. There will be a re-evaluation as they get closer to that date.  All in-person team meetings, practices scheduled continue to remain cancelled until further notice. Based on the closure of the fields for the month of May, the season kick-off for the May 23/24 weekend will not happen. An OFC meeting was held on May 2nd and at this point the OFC members exchanged possible scenarios including various limited schedules including shortened season, jamboree or tournament style of play, most likely to be played in July and August. The consensus across most clubs is to have some sort of football this summer. What that looks like is still to be determined.  Both Football Canada and the OFC are hoping that the summer season can still be played and are waiting for further government information to come mid to late May.

Bottom line we are still committed to having some form of football this summer based upon what happens over the next couple of months with the pandemic. Another meeting has been scheduled for the end of May. If things become clearer by that time we hope to have a more definite answer as to what type of season we could possibly have.

What is most important is that we do our part in ending this crisis, stay healthy and safe and look forward to a better tomorrow!
